SHP offers one of the most affordable highest quality lanolin on the market. It is used to waterproof your woolen covers in a simple process. Our lanolin is pharmaceutical grade so can be used on nipples also. Instructions will be provided upon purchase for the very simple and infrequent lanolising process and it is also in the description above. The packaging of your SHP lanolin is reusable as it is supplied in an amber glass jar.
The soak method for lanolising woollies is the most thorough and especially for use at night. Lanolin neutralises and deodorises urine as well as waterproofing your woollies so they don’t need frequent washing. You just need to air out until dry. If the woollie loses performance, smells when dry or gets pooed on, only then does it need washing and relanolising. Mother nature is pretty amazing. Sometime you can get a couple of weeks use before needing to be washed.
Solid lanolin is also used to soften skin. This pharmaceutical grade lanolin can be used safely on nipples as well as on elbows, knees, heels or as a general moisturiser. I also use it on my horse’s hooves but that’s a bit irrelevant to we humans. I used to import liquid and spray lanolin but want to reduce my carbon miles and solid lanolin is better value for money.
To Lanolise your woollen covers-
Melt a 1/2 teaspoon of lanolin in a small amount of boiling water. Add to cold-warm water in a shallow container (icecream buckets are ideal) The lanolin will float on top of the water. IMPORTANTLY- Add a few drops of baby wash or dishwashing detergent to the lanolin and stir to combine- the water will go cloudy. Make sure there is no blobs of lanolin still floating on top. Immerse your wool soaker into the lanolin rich water. Soak your wool a minimum of 30 minutes or as long as overnight. Gently squeeze out as much water as you can, roll in a towel and then allow to air dry. We send instructions with your order also. You can add a few drops of a gentle essential oil such as lavendar to the melted lanolin to nicely scent your woollies. Once lanolised it is normal that the woollie can feel a little sticky to the touch.
